DR. ALI ATIF GOHEIR

Chairman (1959-2013)

Dr. Ali Atif Goheir, the only son of Mr. Rafique Goheer, graduated from King Edward Medical College in 1983 and proceeded to United Kingdom for higher surgical training. In UK, he trained as a Paediatric and a Neo-natal surgeon, specializing in surgical correction of congenital defects in the new born babies. On his return to Pakistan he joined government service but soon resigned his job to take up the position of Chief Executive of Saira Memorial Hospital, in a bid to further his father’s dream.

During his nearly twenty years as the Chief Executive, he was responsible for expanding and improving the facilities and services at the Hospital. He initiated the drive to procure sophisticated state of the art equipment for the Hospital to ensure that the patients receive the best and most efficient care. Apart from upgrading the existing facilities, he launched the expansion of civil infrastructure, to cater to the ever increasing number of patients seeking treatment at the Hospital and, oversaw the construction of nearly 13,000 sq.feet of additional space during the last year of his life. Saira Memorial Hospital today, is a 75 bed teaching hospital with all modern diagnostic and therapeutic facilities – a living legacy of his untiring efforts, sincerity of purpose and determination to turn Saira Memorial Hospital into a centre of excellence.

Dr. Ali Atif Goheir was also the moving force in developing the outreach services of the Hospital. Scores of patient receive free medical advice and treatment at Saira Free Clinic in the economically underprivileged Lahore locality of Dholanwal, Multan Road. Zahida Goheir Hospital, located in his ancestral village in Tehsil Shahkot, District Nankana Sahib, is the other outreach programme managed by Saira Memorial Hospital. Founded to honour Dr. Atif’s late mother Mrs. Zahida Goheer, free medical camp is held every fortnight at this facility providing free medicines and treatment to the residents of Kot Nizam Din and the adjoining villages.
